Well, that’s it. After six years, five seasons and 62 episodes, Breaking Bad is over.
When Episode 516 – “Felina” ended at 10:15 pm on 29 Sept, 2013, the show was over for good. No more cliffhangers, no more predictions. There may be some ongoing debate and discussion, but we’ve gotten all the Breaking Bad we’re going to get.
Is it what you expected? Did Vince Gilligan create a satisfying ending, or are you disappointed with it?

Hey, loved the show & a great ending. wW was going to die and just glad it was before he was captured by the police. Loved Lydia not getting to ‘squeak’ by, and that he again protected Jesse. I feel Ike there should be a Jesse show, not a Saul show. All in all, a great story. Going to be really hard for the other shows to rise to the level of BB!
Great job with the website – honestly was a great source of info between episodes. I think the show ended in the way it should have!
Thanks for the compliment GK! I’m not turning off the lights here at Tucker’s Hole just yet… there will be an article about the finale episode later this week, and I have a few post-season wrap up topics in mind that will come out in the next few weeks, not to mention some news next year when Breaking Bad dominates the Emmys!
A great end to a great show! A new standard has been set and I for one look forward to more great shows written by Vince Gillian. Breaking Bad went out on top!!
shout out to amc breaking bad five badass yrs thank you from ALDOG
“out of the Blue, YO?”
It was a carefully considered, well paced ending. Loose ends were tied. Most of us got what we wanted in terms of character standings. And there were a few cool little surprises.
Hats off to the writers, cast, and crew. They’ve made history, for sure.
Nick,
When it was over, I just went silent.
All the questions that had been battling for head-space in regards to possible endings, were gone.
At that moment, I KNEW that BB had ended, at least for me, just as it was supposed to end.
“Satisfied’?….Definitely……..”Loved it”?…ugh, that;s a tough call, because I still have a lingering disappointment over the way things ended between WW, Skyler, and the children…..but even that just ‘had to be’. You can’t always get what you want, but sometimes you get what you need!
Thanks for a great website. I saw you mention it over at the AMC BB forum. I’ll be looking forward to your wrap-up.
“Heisenchipper”…….’Baddie to Da’ BONE’!
Ive seen a lot of shows over the years and I have never seen a show on television so intricate and intense. There have been shows that made you think, but not on this level. This show went where you were not supposed to go..and more. This was an amazing show..in every way, with an excellent conclusion. Thank you for putting everything into it because we were able to take so much from it.
Vince Gilligan, a cool guy from what I can tell, and indisputably a great writer, did what he set out to do: tell the story of Walter White going from Mr. Chips to Scarface. Ending “Felina” with the “Special Love” song and Walt dying with a smile on his face was perfectly in tone with the arc of the series as a whole, and — along with Jesse getting away and Flynn probably going to get $10 million soon — gave us as happy an ending as possible. If you think about it outside the context of the show, however, it’s a bit ridiculous — and very sad — that Walt loved the blue meth and his ability to make it more than anything else in life. Especially since so many people died and suffered for that self-involved, egoistic love.
I can think of a much better ending. When Gilligan and company saw what good actors Dean Norris and — especially — Aaron Paul were, they expanded the characters of Hank and Jesse. I think they should have gone even further in this direction, especially in Jesse’s case, in the last season. I would have liked very much to have seen Jesse take the maturity and agency he was developing under Gus and Mike’s tutelage and apply it to his relationship with Walt and meth-making. We could have seen him decide to work with Hank rather than come to it accidentally in the midst of an unreasoning, drug-assisted tantrum. It would have been interesting to have seen the two of them develop a relationship and come to respect each other.
I would have had Hank die much as he did, and then Jesse carry on alone as the “good guy,” perhaps still being being taken prisoner by the Nazis, but not having to be rescued by Walt — maybe even taking Walt — as well as the Nazis — down in the end. Todd, Lydia, and the Nazis were pretty boring villains to go on so long, so another possibility would have been for Jesse to have escaped from the desert shootout and then gone to the DEA.
As you can probably tell, I cared much more about Jesse than I did about Walt, who I saw as pitifully limited, essentially cowardly, and not deserving to tie up all his loose ends and die a good death. Aaron Paul has said he thinks Jesse may have deserved everything that happened to him, but I disagree. He’s young and redeemable and could have had a good life with Brock and Andrea, leaving at least one happy young family at the end. That’s all Jesse truly wanted — connection and family, and I wanted to see him get it, not through luck, but through his own efforts. I thought Andrea’s death was completely gratuitous, Jesse’s suffering excessive, and his lack of character development disappointing.
I still voted that I was satisfied with the ending, because it was good in its way, but I think a better ending was possible.
I had to watch the finale more than once so I could put aside the tension and see all the details I missed when I was biting my nails the first time. It was thoughtful, painful and as bittersweet as the entire show has been from the first episode. After a week I remain simply blown away.
Nick, will you be writing a piece on the finale. Would love to get your thoughts.
I will definitely be writing about the finale, plus I have a few other “post-finale” article topics in mind, so stay tuned. I unfortunately have been suffering a bad cough / cold for two weeks and it is still with me (ugh!). I’m slowly slowly recovering, but I don’t feel “clear headed” enough to complete my article on the finale to the standard I would like just yet. I just got my internet back after five days without it also, due to a faulty power cable on my modem/router thingy. Thanks for asking!
Great, Nick. Get well soon.
Awaiting your wrap up of … well, everything. How much longer?
I’m still getting over this cold / flu thing – worst I’ve ever had in my life – almost four weeks now, and my head aches from all the coughing (not to mention how squeaky my voice is). I am starting to wonder if it’s Breaking Bad withdrawal? I hope to have my finale article out in the next week or two, and then to work on some other “post-finale” articles as well. My apologies for making you folks wait!
First of all I know I am really late for this comment but whatever. I really liked the ending of BB probably every single detail. As an example I love how Walter kinda propitiates to Jesse before his death. And I also love the decision that he did not get arrested but rather he got killed. In my opinion it is one of the most epic endings to a series I have ever seen!
Hi LateMan
You’re not as late as I am. Ever since BB arrived on Netflix my tv has been on a continuos loop. I say that honestly….so much so I have no idea what’s gong on out there in the real world…
On with my finale thoughts:
So many things I cold say but I’m going to stick to the “end” part of the finale.
Gretchen and Elliot scene…..Fantastic. Couldn’t have been better. A spot on scene of three people on the same path years earlier and what divergence can do to lives. A result of Gretchen and Elliot belittling Walt’s contribution and worth to Grey Matter I was happy Vince (and his amazing team of writers) set the two of them up for a lifetime of fear.….Well done !!!
After Skinny Pete and Badger (have to love them) told Walt blue meth was back, the only determination he could make was Jesse was cooking. After hearing that, I was sure he’d be killing Jesse too. No way he’d let him live. He wanted Jesse dead before then and Walt finding out he was still cooking there wasn’t a slice of hope for Jesse. No half measures comes back !!
My thought is he changed his mind once he saw Jesse and realized he wasn’t cooking by choice, but by the hands of those Nazi/White Power assholes. THAT’s why he attacked him. I don’t think the attack was about anger it was about getting Jesse on the floor away from the incoming bullets. However that one move of redemption in no way could cover all the horrible things he did to him.
As for Walt dying in the lab….I thought it was perfect for a couple of reasons…He was happiest in a lab, His possible success at Grey Matter didn’t (for lack of a better word) matter to him anymore. It eliminated him having to the face the cancer, but most of all, except for Jesse, he wiped out everyone who knew anything about his receipt, whether they were big or small bits. And he died as Heisenberg….Screw Grey Matter…..Good or bad he left a legacy of is own. He was proudest of being Heisenberg….
On a separate note……the last scene with Walter and Skyler was gut wrenching. So much said, facial expressions within a small amount time. Absolutely amazing writing and acting. Amazing. Nothing like it. Which explains the BB loop on my tv.
Better late than never folks…or no?
I Felt very bad, especially when walt and jesse comes face to face, when walt kills Jack.Walter’s Death made me cry.

Thanks for hooking a BBaddict (that tries to autocorrect into “Scruff” per our latest convo…thought you’d get a kick out of that) sistah’ up, Nick! Sure wish I’d known you waaaay before now, but we still have lots & lots of Saul to discuss. So, yeah! I’ll try & find my “Felina” (that tries to AC to “Celina” – BLASPHEMY!) thoughts & post here. Excited to see what you “cook” up for us in 2017. Thx again!
